PLAYERS
Are you looking to play soccer, and you don't know how to sign up? Here is some information to get you started.
YOUTH INFO: UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE
1. Recreational Soccer begins at the age of 4 in most clubs. Competitive (Rep) Soccer begins at the age of 10. However, Scarborough offers a developmental league at age 8 and 9.
2. You must choose a club to play for; Scarborough has 12 clubs which all offer houseleague programs, and most offer competitive teams.
3. Decide if you wish to play recreational soccer (1 game & 1 practice per week at most) or competitive soccer (travel, may include several practices or games per week).
Recreational (Houseleague):
- Choose a club; each Scarborough club represents a designated part of Scarborough where houseleague games are played.
- Click on the Scarborough Map for locations of each club
- Contact the club you choose to sign your child up for their age division
- As a houseleague player, you can also be used as a call-up for your Competitive Club teams, or may play in All-star Tournaments, if your club offers an All-Star program.
Competitive (Rep Soccer):
- If you wish to play rep soccer, you will usually have to attend try-outs for a specifice club team, unless invited on a team.
- All clubs in Ontario must maintain 9 players who meet residency (A Scarborough team must have at least 9 players on it from Scarborough)
- Try outs for Outdoor usually begin in January. Try outs for Indoor usually begin in September. Check our SSA Classifieds for try-out postings, and teams looking for players.
- Once you sign to a team, you are committed to that team for the season, unless you pay to transfer.
- Competitive teams usually play in tournaments on weekends, have regular season games and practices, and require travelling sometimes to games.
4. Ensure that you are signed up for a legitimate club, which belongs to the Ontario Soccer Association, which means you are insured and protected.
5. Different teams play in different leagues depending on their level of play. When deciding where you wish to play, assess your self and decide what level you think you are capable of playing at.
